Therapeutic Approach with Children
It is essential to incorporate play when working with younger children. It allows them to process conflicts and experiences in their lives the way an adult might talk through a problem. Through play, a child can process trauma, understand family dynamics, and learn about themselves in the safe, semi-removed space of their imagination. When appropriate I will bring in elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), to teach regulation and coping skills so that children are better able to manage and communicate what they are feeling.
Therapeutic Approach with Teens
When working with teens I approach therapy from a psychodynamic framework to help clients improve their quality of life. I achieve this by helping them gain a better understanding of the way they think and feel. I don't come to sessions with an agenda and I support client's in making their way through their thoughts, feelings, and past experiences. We are walking this path together and I will follow your lead. I understand that some things are difficult to talk about and we will get to them at your pace, if or when you are ready.
Therapeutic Approach with Adults
When working with adults I too approach therapy from a psychodynamic and humanistic background to help my clients improve their confidence, happiness, and overall quality of life. Therapy is a collaborative process, we will identify clear goals for your treatment and work toward them together. I provide a safe, non judgemental environment for you to process what you need. I recognize that talking about difficult things can be unpleasant and respect the pace at which you choose to go.
Parent Coaching and support
I love working with parents! Parenting is so hard and overwhelming. When we become parents, the only example we often have is our own experience growing up. Sometimes we don't want to repeat our experience with our children but struggle to know how to best make the changes we wish we'd had. When meeting with parents we will address any major concerns you are having and discuss strategies for managing them. I may ask you to examine your own childhood, how your parents parented, what you liked and didn't like about their style, and how you want to be different. Together we can find our way to you being the best parent(s) you can be and feel confident in raising your children.
